KORBA (Chhattigarh): “The programmes organised by Balco for awareness of Aids in rural and urban areas is praiseworthy. Balco Management organises many community development programmes in various areas”.
These views were expressed by Renu Agarwal, Mayor, Korba at the seminar organised by Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) on the occasion of World Aids Day. The programme was organised under Balco’s ‘Jagriti’ project in association with ‘SROUT’ an NGO and Balco Ladies Club at Pragati Bhawan, located in Sector, in Balconagar.
Agarwal said in her address that along with organising awareness about Aids in urban areas, it is necessary to organise them in rural areas also so that people can be saved from the fatal disease. Renuka Rathiya, Chairperson, Janpad, Korba and Guest of Honour at the programme said that it is very important for public representatives to be aware about the different aspects of Aids.
These representatives can make the people in their areas aware about the deadly disease. She also said that it is important to associate the youth with activities relating to employment, sports and other innovative tasks so that they can spend their time more creatively and thus keep themselves away from drugs.
Dr. P.S. Sisodia, Chief Medical Officer, Korba and Guest of Honour at the Seminar gave detailed information about the medical treatment and also about the social aspects associated with the killer disease. He also added that in the case of the slightest doubt people should not hesitate to get themselves checked for H.I.V, Aids. If we stay alert and responsible then we can protect ourselves from H.I.V Aids.
Ashish Ranjan, Head- Corporate Communications and CSR expressed his gratitude for the outstanding support received for hosting the event from various organisations.
He thanked Chhattisgarh Aids Control Society, District Health Department, Balco Ladies Club, Self Help Organisation –‘SROUT’ and the different Schools from whom support was received. He emphasised that a united stand by all concerned was important for the prevention of Aids.
B.K.Sriwastwa, Advisor, Balco said that Balco is working on creating awareness about Aids in its operational areas since the last 10 years. He said with everybody’s support it is possible to get control over this life threatening disease.
The Seminar was organised on three topics. Panels were created for discussion on different topics. On the topic ‘How can Society eradicate the stigma caused by Aids’? The speakers in the panel were Kailash Pawar, Principal, Delhi Public School, Prof. Sonita Satsangi, and Incharge of The Red Cross Society in P.G. College, Korba, Dr. Y.K.Sona, Secretary, Scientific Society, Korba, Priya Kapoor, Office Bearer, Balco Ladies Club and Veena Mistry, Counsellor, I.C.T.C, Korba.
On the topic ‘Government and Non-Government efforts in Aids Awareness’. This topic was deliberated upon by a panel comprising Madhu Pandey, Advocate, Dr. G.S.Jatra, Nodal Aids Officer, District Hospital and Dr. A. G. Bhokh, Clinical Advisor of Chhattisgarh Aids Control. The topic ‘Create awareness with the youth at home’- This topic was discussed by Y.K.Tiwari, In charge N.S.S. in K.N.College, Korba, Jaspreet Kaur Flora, Lecturer, Govt. Higher Secondary School and Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Principal, D.D.M. School.
Andrea expressed her views about the global aspects of Aids in the seminar. The programme was attended by Arun Sharma, President, Korba Transport Association, R.P. Tiwari, President Goods Transport Association, Korba and Dickson Masih, Chairman, ‘SROUT’.
The Guests presented awards to the students of the 10 schools of Balconagar area who had shown cooperation in organising the seminar. Along with this, the winners of the essay competition held on the occasion of World Aids Day were presented awards. The first prize for painting competition was given to Krishna Pratap Khunte.
The second, third and fourth position awards went to Dipesh Adile, Sandeep Gupta and Rameshwar Vishwakarma respectively. In the slogan writing competition, the first prize went to Harish Kumar Sahu, Kishan Kumar got the second prize, the third prize went to Hina Nayak and Krishna Yadav got the fourth prize.
