NEW DELHI (India CSR): Ambuja Cements, a key company in the diversified Adani Portfolio, has been making significant strides in community development through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. For over 30 years, Ambuja Cements has supported rural communities near its Ambujanagar plant in Gujarat’s coastal areas, addressing crucial issues such as water scarcity, agriculture, and livelihoods.
Reviving Water Resources in Gir Somnath
In Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district, where saline water ingress threatened agriculture and drinking water, Ambuja Cements spearheaded a transformation. The area, once marked as a ‘Dark Zone’ due to extreme groundwater depletion, now enjoys revitalized water resources. Initiatives such as building check dams, deepening ponds, and linking rivers have not only restored groundwater but also boosted agricultural productivity. Farmers now cultivate three crops annually, an increase from just one, greatly improving food security and income.
Empowering Farmers and Promoting Sustainability
More than 44,000 farmers in the Saurashtra region have benefited from Ambuja Cements’ CSR efforts, which focus on sustainable farming practices, animal husbandry, and livelihood support. These programs have introduced modern agricultural techniques, improving both productivity and sustainability. “The work of Ambuja Cements has not only replenished our land but also brought new hope to our lives,” said a farmer from Kodinar.
Supporting Women and Youth
The company has also empowered women and youth through Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and skill development programs. These initiatives have fostered financial independence and employment opportunities, further driving local economic growth.
Ambuja Cements continues to build resilient communities, ensuring lasting change in the regions where it operates.
