One of the challenges of writing a concept paper is choosing a topic. While some professors assign a specific topic to students, there are others who let students choose their own topic, testing their creativity and aptitude. Most professors ask students to submit a proposed topic and check it for approval. Once the topic is approved by the professor, the student can start working on his concept paper. Educational management has its own characteristics, due to the specifics of the educational system as a socio-pedagogical organizational structure that provides education, training and development of the younger generation. In educational management, socio-psychological methods of management dominate, since administrative and economic methods have limited possibilities in stimulating creative initiatives of teachers and in solving the growing number of socio-psychological problems in pedagogical collectives.

Purpose of Concept Papers

A concept paper is a brief document that summarizes a project or an issue on a particular subject. It acts as a proposal and a means of communication between the student and the professor or the research committee. It also gives the student the chance to develop a research focus, define it and get early feedback from the professor regarding the research idea.

Concept papers are written before the dissertation plan and provide a summary of the dissertation the student has planned. They are often short, ranging from 2-3 pages but sometimes, they can be up to 10 pages or more, depending on the requirements of the instructor. Regardless of the paper’s length, nonetheless, it should provide an in-depth analysis of an issue or a proposed project so the professor will have a clear understanding of what the student is proposing or is trying to disseminate.

Though they have the same purpose, concept papers may have different requirements as professors have different standards or criteria for writing a concept paper. Some subjects have a grading rubric the students should follow. This serves as a guide for students to develop their concept paper and also an encouragement for them to work hard and meet the specific requirements.

Choosing a Topic for a Concept Paper

Topics for a concept paper should be clear, relevant and catchy. It can be stressful and confusing but for a student to score good grades, he or she should develop a concept paper topic that the professor will find interesting. It should be something worthy of a discussion or argument; hence, the student has to think carefully before choosing a specific topic for a concept paper. For students having trouble developing or choosing a good topic, the following tips can be useful:

  1. Learning What a Concept Paper is All About

Before a student chooses a topic for his concept paper, he should first know and understand what a concept paper is all about: its purpose, its elements and its process. One should also keep in mind the professor’s requirements to develop a good research topic.

  • Choosing a Topic of Interest

It will be better for any student to choose a topic that interests him. If one is knowledgeable about a certain concept and finds it interesting, it will be easier for him to work on the concept paper. On the one hand, if the student picks a topic that he is not familiar with, it will require more time for research and corroboration.

  • Researching the Concept

If a student has a concept in mind, it is smart to conduct some research about it. Are there relevant resources he can use if he chooses this topic? Are there past discussions to support the claim? If the concept is too specific and unpopular, it may be difficult to find resources and past studies about the subject.

  • Having a List of Options

It is not enough that a student has one or a few concepts in mind. To choose the best topic for a concept paper, he should have enough options. After assessing them and checking if there will be enough resources for the paper, he can pick the topic based on the requirements or rubric the professor has provided.

  • Choosing a Unique Concept

Choosing a unique concept can be thought provoking. Students who want to use some sort of thesis paper writing service will not have any problems with it but if one is going to work on his own, it is necessary to make sure the topic is unique. Avoid generic topics that everybody else is talking about. If the topic is unique, there’s a higher chance of it being approved by a professor.

  • Asking Someone for Help

If it is too daunting for a student, he can ask someone for help in choosing a topic. He can ask help or advice from a friend who has worked on a concept paper before or someone who is knowledgeable about research papers.

  • What Makes a Good Concept Paper Topic

What makes a good concept paper topic are its uniqueness, clarity, creativity and feasibility. If a student is going to write a concept paper on education management, the topic should be about a pressing issue or an interesting concept on education. Education management is a broad subject so a student should cut it into small pieces and choose the one he is interested in the most.

Concept Paper Topics on Education Management

Education has many elements and there are lots of options for students when it comes to creating a research topic on this subject. Apparently, a good topic on education management is something that will let a student dig deeper about the concept and analyze the important details in a concise yet in-depth manner.

There are many interesting topics on education management so it can be overwhelming for a student. Topics range from higher education leadership to educational models to student performance. A student can also choose something that relates to a specific issue or subject such as gender equality, technology, parent expectations and staff management.
