MUMBAI: vChalk, an edutech social enterprise has tied up with Impact Guru, a social crowdfunding platform to raise funds of Rs. 3 lakhs to support 1 million children in affordable schools to catch up on basic English and Math skills for learning. vChalk has raised just over Rs. 1 lakh and seeks support from well wishers across the country.
Statistics reveal that in India, millions of children are first generation English learners, who are enrolled in affordable private schools, but cannot read or calculate to learn further. vChalk helps children who are first in their family to learn English and enables someone in the neighbourhood to take after-school classes with proven activities for learning. With their methods, they have seen children improving in less than 45 days.
Through a pilot project that was completed in March this year, vChalk has determined that technology can go a long way to help children acquire the basic skills for learning, and hence they are bringing technology into the classrooms to guide the community facilitators. These facilitators will have access to a mobile application that describes the activities for each group of children to do during the class that day.
vChalk aims to use the funds raised towards classroom planning application development, outreach to more parents who dream better for their children enrolled in budget schools, hiring of locals who speak English to facilitate a vChalk class in a school nearby.
vChalk is brgining about change in how education is imparted today in the country. The funds they seek will enable them to make the application available in classrooms for at least 2,000 children this year.
