BIMTECH way of CSR, Passion for setting up libraries in Jails and rural areas

CSR of BIMTECH project Chiraiya (1)NEW DELHI: Ranganathan Society for Social Welfare and Library Development (RSSWLD) came into existence in 2009. It aims to facilitate the dissemination of knowledge and information at the grass root level by setting up libraries in the rural areas.

The society’s primary goal is intellectual development of the underprivileged sections of society so that they can avail competitive employment opportunities and lead a dignified social existence.

CSR of BIMTECH project Chiraiya (2)So far RSSLWD has established libraries in three prisons, Lucknow, Ghaziabad and Greater Noida, and two more in Meerut and Aligarh are in the pipeline for bringing positive energy to the inmates.

Other then jails, RSSWLD is also working towards establishing libraries in rural areas. RSSWLD is also responsible for delivering better service to the society, especially for the underprivileged sector.

Like every year, this year RSSWLD has also added one new chapter “Thousand Blankets ….Thousand Lives & quot;  in its Mankind Book.

This year team RSSWLD has extended its very unique series Va stra Daan and blanket donation in various locations like Chattarpur (MP), Goonj  NGO, prisons  of Ghaziabad and Greater Noida. RSSWLD has also started knowledge sharing services.

CSR of BIMTECH project Chiraiya (3) Every year interdisciplinary Research Workshops are being organized regularly for the scholars, especially library professionals from across the country.

RSSWLD is also supporting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan since the starting of this initiative. RSSWLD has started waste management system in the BIMTECH premises, where BIMTECH itself generates organic manure for the gardens.

Since it came into existence, RSSWLD has been upgrading a number of libraries and promoting open source softwares. This year RSSWLD has also received requests from various institutes for upgrading and automating their libraries.CSR of BIMTECH project Chiraiya (4)

Recently RSSLWD has initiated the project Protsahan Chairraya for Village Adolescent girls to realize their self role in a society.

Project Protsahan Chiraiyya, the Life Skills Education Programme (LSE) a rural social project on women emancipation organized by Birla Institute of Management Technology, Greater Noida successfully crossed its first milestone on 23 July, 2016.

CSR of BIMTECH project Chiraiya (6)The project was launched with the vision to sensitize the rural adolescent girls about all aspects of good quality life, education, health aa well as their roles in the community.

Currently the project is in its pahse II at Neemka Shahjahanpur, Jewar Tehsil, UP. This village is adopted by Honourable Union Minister of Tourism, Dr. Mahesh Sharma under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Vikas Yojna.

The pilot phase of this project was flagged off on 28 March, 2016 to commemorate the first death anniversary of Dr. Sarla Devi Birla, Founding member of BIMTECH.

The project imparted life skills training to 30 girls enrolled in the first batch.

The girls attended total of 17 highly engaging and enriching sessions conducted on various topics related to their welfare which were spread across 51 hours during the past four months.

CSR of BIMTECH project Chiraiya (7)The trainers from Ranganathan Society for Social Welfare and Library Development (RSSWLD), the CSR implementing agency of BIMTECH with the support of Sehgal Foundation trainers left no stone unturned in keeping the girls excited about the LSE programme.

During these sessions, the girls were motivated to continue education and achieve higher goals in their lives.

CSR of BIMTECH project Chiraiya (8)The parents and village administration were also counseled on various topics related to the girl child and their roles in providing them a dignified life.
