DHENKANAL :GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL) observed the 44th National Safety Week from February 23 to March 04, 2015 at its 1050 MW thermal power plant premises at Kamalanga.
It aimed at sensitizing its employees and contract workers about safety and its importance at work and in day-to-day life.In the morning, safety badges were pinned to shirts of GKEL employees and contract staff and workers of different agencies by the EHS (Employee Health & Safety) staff as they went around the plant with banners and placards displaying safety slogans and messages.
Mr. R. Raveendra nathan Nair, Director & Chief Operating Officer, GKEL, hoisted the safety flag. Speaking on the occasion he said “Since its inception, GKEL has introduced systems and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, partners and workmen” Mr. Nair advised people working in the plant “Not do any job without safety equipment. Doing so would not only place individuals at risk of life but also the plant in danger”
Mr. Bibhu Prasad, Assistant Director, Factories & Boilers; Dhenkanal, was the chief guest at the closing day ceremony. Mr. Prasad expressed satisfaction with the safety standards at GKEL and advised the management to sustain efforts to achieve ‘zero incident’ in the plant at all times.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Susanta Kumar Sahoo, Associate General Manager (EHS), who conducted the weeklong safety program, requested everyone to observe all safety protocols, rules and regulations to keep the safety flag flying high at GKEL.Mr. Chittaranjan Mahali and Mr. Pritiranjan Behera from the EHS Department administered the safety oath. A street play titled “Carelessness Pays” was enacted by the Fire Safety Wing of GKEL. Different competitions like slogan, essay, drawing etc., were organized and prizes distributed to winners and safety-conscious workmen.
