The initiative reinforces Xiaomi’s long-standing commitment to social responsibility and marks Xiaomi’s formal engagement with AICTE and the UP Govt.

NEW DELHI (India CSR): Xiaomi India, a global technology leader, announced the launch of Xiaomi Edge – Next Gen Scholar Program, a flagship skilling initiative aimed at empowering over 30,000 college students across Uttar Pradesh with future-ready capabilities in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, over the next three years.

Designed as a structured, impact-led CSR intervention, the program will be implemented in partnership with Shri Mahakal Education and Charitable Trust – BharatCares, reinforcing Xiaomi India’s commitment to collaborative, outcome-driven social responsibility and technology-led empowerment.

The announcement was formalised on the sidelines of the Global India AI Impact Summit 2026 at the AI for Better Bharat® Pavilion. The event was graced by Mahip Singh, CEO, Innovation Hub, Government of Uttar Pradesh; Varun Madan, Chief People Officer & Head of Integrated Management, Xiaomi India; and Bhowmik Shah, Trustee of Shri Mahakal Education and Charitable Trust – BharatCares

By anchoring Xiaomi Edge at the first-ever global AI summit in the Global South, the Xiaomi Edge initiative supports India’s broader vision of accelerating AI adoption, in line with the objectives of India AI Mission to build a future-ready digital talent ecosystem. The initiative is also aligned with the objectives of National Education Policy 2020, Skill India Mission, and Digital Uttar Pradesh.

Mahip Singh, CEO Innovation Hub, Government of Uttar Pradesh, said, “Uttar Pradesh is at a pivotal moment where scale, ambition, and opportunity converge. Initiatives like Xiaomi Edge are vital to translate this momentum into a future-ready talent pipeline, strengthening employability in AI and cybersecurity while accelerating the State’s digital and industrial growth.”

Under Xiaomi Edge, Xiaomi India will train 10,000 students annually over three years, reaching a total of 30,000 learners across Uttar Pradesh. Delivered in structured annual cycles spanning 36 months, the program will combine curriculum-led training, project-based learning, and direct industry mentorship to bridge the skills gap in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity. By prioritising sustained engagement over one-time interventions, the initiative aims to drive measurable improvements in employability and digital readiness.

Varun Madan, Chief People Officer & Head of Integrated Management, Xiaomi India said, “At Xiaomi India, our journey has always been rooted in building long-term value through technology, aligned with India’s growth trajectory. Through Xiaomi Edge, we are investing in India’s youth by expanding access to future-ready skills in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, while strengthening institutional capabilities and enabling inclusive participation.

We are grateful to the Government of Uttar Pradesh, AICTE, and our implementation partner, Shri Mahakal Education and Charitable Trust – Bharat Cares for their collaboration in driving scalable, long-term impact. Together, we aim to strengthen India’s position as a global leader in technology and innovation.”

A key component of the program is the establishment of an advanced Xiaomi Centre of Excellence at an AICTE-approved government institution in Uttar Pradesh. This Centre will serve as a long-term institutional asset, enhancing technical infrastructure and fostering innovation-driven learning within the state.

Bhowmik Shah, Trustee, Shri Mahakal Education and Charitable Trust – BharatCares, said, “We are proud to collaborate with Xiaomi India on the Xiaomi Edge – Next Gen Scholar Program. Xiaomi’s long-standing commitment to leveraging technology for meaningful impact makes it a strong partner for delivering scalable skilling initiatives. Through structured training and hands-on learning opportunities, the program will equip thousands of young learners with industry-relevant capabilities, with a focus on inclusive access and women’s participation.”

The initiative is designed to promote inclusive growth, with a target of 40 per cent women participation, while strengthening industry–academia collaboration to ensure students are equipped with skills aligned to evolving technology demands.

Through Xiaomi Edge, Xiaomi India reinforces its commitment to strengthening India’s digital future. By integrating technology expertise, institutional collaboration, and inclusive skilling at scale, the company seeks to contribute meaningfully to building an AI-ready Bharat that is innovative, equitable, and globally competitive.
