The Young India Skills University intends to offer courses in several areas, with the syllabus being prepared by industries as per the skills required for jobs in various sectors.
Adani Foundation has donated Rs. 100 crore cheque towards the establishment of Young India Skills University in Telangana.
HYDERABAD (India CSR): In a major boost to Telangana’s skill development initiatives, Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani handed over a donation of Rs 100 crore to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for the establishment of Young India Skills University. The university aims to empower the youth of Telangana by providing them with industry-relevant skills. Industrialist Anand Mahindra of Mahindra Group will chair the university’s board, and courses are set to begin in key sectors like healthcare, commerce, and logistics.
Notably absent from the donation event was Dr. Priti Adani, Chairperson of the Adani Foundation. Dr. Priti Adani has been instrumental in driving the foundation’s philanthropic activities, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and skill development.
A delegation from the foundation led by the chairperson of Adani Group, Gautam Adani, met with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to hand over the donation cheque. They met in January of this year at the World Economic Summit in Davos. “Mr Adani also promised continued support for the initiatives of Telangana state government for skills development, and empowerment of youth,” as per a post from the Telangana Chief Minister’s office handle on X (formerly Twitter).
Adani’s CSR Contribution for Skill Development
Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, met Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday in Hyderabad to extend support to the Young India Skills University, which is being established to advance skill development initiatives in Telangana. The Rs 100 crore donation was made under the Adani Foundation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, demonstrating the group’s commitment to social impact and the empowerment of youth in the state.
The Chief Minister had earlier appealed to industrialists to become partners in the development of this university. He emphasized the need for creating a corpus for managing the university, which will play a crucial role in skilling the younger generation of Telangana. The university, chaired by Anand Mahindra, aims to bridge the skill gap by aligning educational programs with industry requirements.
Government Allocates Land and Funds for University
The Telangana government has allocated 150 acres of land in Mucherla, within the ‘Future City’ development area, for the establishment of the permanent campus of Young India Skills University. The government has also earmarked an additional Rs 100 crore for the development of this institution. In its initial phase, the university will start operating from a temporary campus at the Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) in Gachibowli, and is expected to commence its academic activities after the Dasara festival.
The university is designed to offer a wide range of courses, with the curriculum tailored by industries to meet the specific skills needed for jobs in various sectors. The first set of courses will focus on healthcare, commerce, and logistics, with industry players like Apollo, Flipkart, Amazon, Lenskart, Allcargo, and ProConnect coming forward to support training and conduct classes.
Anand Mahindra to Chair Skills University Board
Industrialist Anand Mahindra has been appointed as the chairman of the Young India Skills University board, further emphasizing the importance of industry participation in the education sector. The collaboration between the government and industrialists like Adani and Mahindra is expected to enhance the quality of skill education in Telangana.
The initiative has also attracted participation from several companies that are eager to contribute to the skilling ecosystem. Lenskart, AIG, Apollo, Flipkart, Amazon, Allcargo, ProConnect, and o9 Solutions have already come forward to conduct classes for the students, ensuring that the courses offered are directly aligned with industry needs.
MoU Signed for Training Programs
The Young India Skills University recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lenskart to launch a training program for Optometric Store Associates. According to VLVSS Subba Rao, Vice-Chancellor of the university, this one-month training course by Lenskart will be conducted on the university campus, starting with an initial batch of 30 students. He added that all successful candidates would be placed at Lenskart stores across the state, providing employment opportunities to the trainees.
Political Reactions and Remarks
The donation by Gautam Adani has also drawn political reactions. KT Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), took a dig at the Congress on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. He referred to the recurring criticism of the Modi-Adani association by Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera. In a satirical remark, he suggested new nicknames like “RevAdani” (Revanth + Adani) or “RagAdani” (Rahul Gandhi + Adani) to highlight Adani’s association with leaders from other political parties.
Future Plans and Industry Engagement
The establishment of Young India Skills University is seen as a step towards creating an industrial-led education model where the syllabus is prepared in consultation with industry partners, ensuring students are job-ready upon completion of their courses. The involvement of leading companies is expected to give a significant push to the skill development landscape in Telangana.
With courses starting in healthcare, commerce, and logistics, the university plans to introduce more programs based on evolving industry demands. This institution will be a game-changer for the state, providing thousands of students with the opportunity to gain practical skills and secure employment in major industries.
Empowering Telangana’s Youth
The move by the Adani Group to donate Rs 100 crore for the establishment of the Young India Skills University is a significant boost for Telangana’s vision of skilling its youth. The university, supported by leading names in Indian industry, aims to create a robust framework where young individuals can gain the skills necessary to excel in an increasingly competitive job market. The collaboration between government, industry, and educational institutions is expected to bring about transformative changes to the education and employment landscape in Telangana.
