Balrampur Foundation, a not-for-profit initiative aimed at inter-alia fulfilling the social responsibility of Balrampur Chini Mills Limited, one of the largest integrated sugar mill complexes in India has set up mobile science laboratories to extend science education in the hinterland of India. In collaboration with Agastya International Foundation, Balrampur Foundation has impacted the lives of rural students across 4 different districts of Uttar Pradesh. The mobile science laboratories have been set up in Balrampur, Barabanki, Lakhimpur Kheri and Gonda districts to revolutionize science education in remote regions of Uttar Pradesh.
With these mobile science labs, Balrampur Foundation aims to create a more unbiassed progress amongst students from the rural and underprivileged areas of Uttar Pradesh. Through the Mobile Science Lab Project, BCML can not only deliver science education and hands-on learning experiences to areas with limited access to quality education and resources but also create a culture of inclusivity in the communities.
Moreover, their online platforms are also adequately advanced for enhanced experiential learning capacities of students in these schools. They not only have scientific instruments, experiments, models, and educational materials, but also have enough safety protocols while performing them. About 800 mobile science lab visits were conducted in the last financial year (2022-23) which impacted about 48,000 students across 4 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Agastya Foundation’s mission is “to spark curiosity, nurture creativity, and instill confidence and caring” in economically disadvantaged children and government school teachers by bringing imaginative and innovative hands-on STEAM education and design-thinking through experiential, project-based and peer-to-peer learning to schools, towns, and villages across India.
BCML is committed to create a holistic environment to provide practical education and strengthen interactive learning experiences for the students in rural Uttar Pradesh. They firmly believe with this initiative the gap between urban and rural learning can be bridged and the students can have easy access to traditional science laboratories. The company is driven towards a self-reliant future and improving the lives of the people in the rural community. Hence this is a great step towards building a self-reliant community of students who will be the youth of India tomorrow.
