NEW DELHI: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), a flagship company of the Adani Group, has raised the bar by handling the highest-ever rail cargo of 120.51 MMT in the financial year 2022-23, surpassing the previous record of 98.61 MMT. This achievement underscores APSEZ’s commitment to providing comprehensive logistics solutions.
Rapid Growth: 22% YoY Increase and Notable Revenue for Indian Railways
Under the General Purpose Wagon Investment Scheme (GPWIS) of Indian Railways, the cargo handled by rail has seen significant growth of 62% YoY. With Mundra Port handling over 15,000 container trains in FY23, it continues to strengthen its position as India’s EXIM gateway. This successful performance resulted in APSEZ generating around Rs 14,000 crore in revenue from rail cargo for Indian Railways in FY23.
Double-stack Container Train Handling Sees 4.3% YoY Growth
In FY23, Mundra Port reported a 4.3% YoY increase in the handling of double-stack container trains. This method, which involves loading containers on trains in two levels, ensures transportation in an energy-efficient and reliable manner, reducing the overall per-unit cost and enhancing customer satisfaction.

Mundra Port’s remarkable growth also reflects its commitment to environmentally friendly operations. The use of rail transport helps in reducing the carbon footprint of freight transport.
