Hindalco’s Biogas and Drinking water kiosk Project Dedicated to Community

HIRAKUD: As a part of it’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme, Hindalco Hirakud a unit of Aditya Birla Group has constructed and dedicated a cool drinking water kiosk at Hirakud main market square for public use and a Bio-gas plant for the benefit of inmates living at Kalpataru Sevasiksha asram at Larpank Hirakud.

In the inaugural functions held here today, both the projects were handed over to the beneficiaries by Dr Raseswari Panigrahi, MLA Sambalpur in presence of Rajesh Kumar Gupta Head Hindalco Hirakud.

Located at the busy junction of Hirakud market, the cool drinking water kiosk with its deep borewell water supply will provide drinking water to hundreds of people who throng the market daily.

Speaking during the occasion Gupta reiterated Hindalco’s commitment for serving the cause of society. Apart from providing and facilitating basic amenities for the poor, the primary thrust for the company has always been environmental sustainability, he added.
Dr Panigrahi, MLA Sambalpur, lauded the good work done by the company in this regard and especially appreciated the right steps being taken towards promoting eco-friendly projects like biogas.

Elaborating on the biogas project Shivanand Mohanty, Head External Affairs and CSR, Hindalco Hirakud, informed that the biogas plant at the Kalpataru Sevasiksha asram shall help in meeting the cooking fuel requirements of the asram’s kitchen which earlier used to depend on firewood. The kitchen and adjoining premises have also been renovated to maintain hygiene. The inmates of the asram who are orphans and the likes from nearby areas and other parts of neighbouring districts shall directly benefit out from this project. The biogas plant will be fed with the cow dung collected at the asram. The effluents of the biogas plant has good nutritive value for both plant and soil and will be used in asram’s kitchen garden. For better habitation of the asram cows, construction job of a cowshed is in progress, he added.

Present during the occasion among others were Sr officials of Hindalco including Sandip Roy Head Hindalco FRP, Nirmal Sinha Head HR Hirakud Complex, Arun Poddar Head Hindalco Power, officials of Hindalco CSR team, Dr Pramod Rath President BJD Sambalpur, members of Senior citizens forum Hirakud, students and members of Kalpataru asram committee and volunteers from Hirakud.
