JSPL Angul Agreed to Encompasses 100 % support for Medical Treatment in Injury at Project Work
ANGUL (Odisha): Based on the outcome of 6 hour long tripartite meeting conducted under the chairmanship of the District Collector , Angul the month long protest by the Birankeswar Parja Sangha has come to an end. Jindal Steel & Power has announced a package of Medical assistance for the injured in the skirmish on 25 January inside the Plant premises. This is the second tripartite meeting conducted on the isuue under the chairmanship of the Dist Collector. Out of 20 demands of the Prajasngha, 13 were agreed in the first meeting held on 3 February. In the second meeting discussions were held on remaining 7 demands and other related issues.
The package of Medical assistance agreed to encompasses 100 % support for medical treatment and reimbursement of cost of expenditure there against, Health insurance of Rs.1 lakh for those had minor injury and up to Rs. 2 lakh for those who had major injury as well as livelihood support minimum at the rate of unskilled wage rate to the injured till they are declared medically fit to work. The support will be ensured by a Committee headed by the ADM and comprisie of CDMO and his identified Govt doctor, JSPL representatives and representatives from Parja Sangha.
It may be mentioned that JSPL had already announced best medical care for the injured and has already deposited Rs.15 lakh with the Dist. Administration as the first installment for treatment of the injured on the incident of 25January .
The Other demands agreed to are
(i) Focused Skill building training and employment opportunities for the nominated members of the Project Affected Families in a structured manner
(ii) Expediting the ongoing process of direct employment of the nominated members of the Project Displaced Families
(iii) Top priority for Project Affected Families to engage them in project construction work with Work Contracts, Supply Contracts, equipment hiring and other hiring of Transport and goods vehicles etc.
The notable development in the Meeting is creation of an institutional mechanism through constitution of a Core Committee at the village level which will frequently interact with the local management of JSPL and the District Administration to address the problems of the villagers as posed by the Praja Sangha from time to time. Collector has also agreed to request the RDC to invite the members of Praja sangha as special invitees in the RPDAC meeting.
The Praja Sangha has declared that the discussions have been very fruitful and satisfactory and have assured to extend all cooperation for project construction activities. The Office Bearers of Praja Sangha have expressed that they sincerely expect JSPL addressing to the genuine demands of the Project Impacted People from time to time.
“This is a Community driven Plant and is being built with the sweat and skill of the local Community. We shall continue our good work for the sustainable development of the local Community.
Besides my Dept Heads, I am personally meeting the People every Friday to address their problems. We are thankful to the District and Police Administration for reaching to the People and bring all the stakeholders to one Forum to discuss and negotiate the issues. This has reinforced every one’s belief that face to face discussion is the most effective way to resolve the issues between the Project Authorities and the local Community”, said Rajesh Jha, the Executive Director of JSPL, Angul.
