LANJIGARH: Vedanta Aluminium Limited, Lanjigarh supported the Government Health Department in the Intensive Pulse Polio Programme and administered pulse polio drops to several infants in Lanjigarh area on February 26, 2012. The programme will continue for three days.
Dr Mukesh Kumar–President & COO of Vedanta Aluminium Limited (VAL) kicked off the programme by administering polio vaccine to children at Vedanta Hospital, Lanjigarh. Along with him, also present were Avilash Dwivedi – Head-CSR, VAL; Dr. Sabita Swain, Chief Medical Officer – Vedanta Hospital; Dr. Malay Tripathy, Govt. Hospital, Biswanathpur and other Anganwadi Workers.
Inaugurating the programme, Dr Mukesh Kumar said that “Vedanta committed towards the healthcare of Lanjigarh area. Immunization of children would help them for a healthy living of the future generation.”
On February 26, a total of 1324 children were immunized through 12 immunization booths. One transit team also administered the polio drops at various locations. Prior to the program, the CSR team members of VAL conducted extensive awareness drive for last one week to mobilize the community for active participation in the campaign. On February 26 and 27, pulse polio drops will be administered to the children in door-to-door campaign.
The company provided assistance in logistics arrangement, manpower and other support to the medical team of district health administration. With joint effort of the health team and VAL, there was an overwhelming response to the programme by the community.
