MUMBAI: Tesco HSC celebrated The Joy of Giving Week or Daan Utsav from 7 to 9 October, 2014, tying back to their core value of ‘Use our Scale for Good’. Events and activities were planned in a way that employees had multiple channels to contribute – donating money, fulfilling wishes in kind, volunteering, sharing talent, or just by participating in fun activities at the food festival and carnival.
The first two days focused on giving to those in need and the third day involved giving back to fellow colleagues. Close to 3 lakh rupees were raised in funds to donate to HSC’s partner NGOs – Karunashraya, BOSCO, and APD (Association for People with Disabilities.)
The activities that spanned the three days included:
Kiosks were set up in the campus at which employees could pledge their organs to those in need. In total, 48 pledges were received.
Free Medical Tests for Employees by Apollo Healthcare
All employees undertook health check-ups were conducted free of cost.
Human Chain to support the education of underprivileged children
Funds were raised to support the education of under privileged children by creating a human chain on campus. 900 HSCiians joined hands for the cause
Wish Trees
Wish Trees linked to our partner NGOs were set up, with employees picking wishes from the trees and fulfilling them in cash or kind.
Food Festival & Carnival
Employees set up fifty food stalls and fun activities. The funds raised through the sales totaled Rs. 1 lakh in just six hours and were donated to partner NGOs.
Employees at Tesco epitomize Tesco’s motto “Community is at the heart of what we do” and, are passionate about supporting causes close to their hearts through fundraising efforts and volunteering. This paves the way for building a sustainable business for the future. Additionally, Tesco HSC is involved in the India Giving Challenge running a competition to see which company can raise the most funds for their chosen NGO’s. Over 200 employees have contributed to this initiative which is a part of the larger ‘Joy of Giving’ week and is on till the end of October.
