JAMSHEDPUR: Tata Steel celebrated the 153rd Birth Anniversary of Sir Dorabji Tata today at Sir Dorabji Tata Park, Jamshedpur. The function was attended by the senior officials of the Company and other Tata Group Companies, employees, senior citizens of the city, other office bearers and officials of the Union from various departments of Tata Steel.
While addressing the gathering Chief Guest, Mr H M Nerurkar, Managing Director, Tata Steel, said “Mr J N Tata’s philosophy was that of a unique thinker’s. Sir Dorabji’s visionary approach and farsightedness made it possible for him to materialize every dream that his father, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, had seen. He displayed concerned about developing India as a sporting nation and had taken up pragmatic steps to fructify this by sponsoring sportsmen to 1924 Olympic games.
Mr PN Singh, President, Tata workers Union, said “It was Dorabji Tata, more than anyone else who realised the majestic objectives of his father. He believed that the interests of any one set of people are closely bound up with the interests of the whole land; and that in the industrial and commercial growth of the country the interest, both of those who have adopted it, and those who are born of the soil, will be fully served. The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the largest philanthropic entity in India, has been redefining itself and its funding philosophy. It was he who gave shape and substance to the entrepreneurial projects that Jamsetji had once seeded”.
The tribute to Sir Dorab ji was followed by a thematic exhibition on his life and times at the same venue. Mr H M Nerurkar inaugurated the exhibition. The exhibition showcases Sir Dorabji as an administrator and facilitator of the many projects envisaged by JN Tata and also as sportsperson, patron, and supporter of the Olympic movements in India. As a part of the celebrations, the Dorabji Park will remain illumined till August 28, 2012.
The exhibition also aims to highlight the most important aspects of his life, the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust; the largest philanthropy entity in India, the trust remains constant in its commitment to community and country.
