NEW DELHI: Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC), Government of India Enterprise, has committed financial assistance under Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives for providing skill development training and placement of unemployed youth belonging to SC/ST/OBC/ Woman and other weaker sections of the society.
REC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 7 Feb, 2013 with Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), for providing skill development training at their training center at Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, in the presence of the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, CMD of REC, Shri Rajeev Sharma, Member of the Board of Governors, CIDC, Prof. Niranjan Swarup and other senior officials from Ministry of Power were also present.
The skill development center at Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh is first of its kind in the state and would help in providing sustainable skill development to around 500 youth hailing from various districts of Madhya Pradesh in the area of training and placement in trades relating to the construction industry. So far, around 1000 unemployed youth have already benefited under the CSR initiatives of REC after such training, thereby augmenting their employment opportunities.
The Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) has been set up by the Planning Commission, Government of India with a mandate to work towards improving the functioning of construction industry.
On this occasion the Minister congratulated REC and CIDC for undertaking this important assignment for the benefit of the rural poor. He also extended his best wishes for the success of the program.
