NAGPUR: The inter-state meeting called by National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) between Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra Pench tiger reserves has decided to fund various projects in the reserves under corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes of companies.
The Narendra Modi govt at the Centre has drastically cut money for tiger reserves. This year’s budget for NTCA was reduced 15% from Rs161.01 crore to Rs136.46 crore. Hence, NTCA is seeking help from India Inc.
This meeting was chaired by additional principal chief conservator of forest (APCCF) & inspector general of forest (IGF) Debabrata Swain. Assistant inspector general (AIG) Ravikiran Govekar, field directors of Pench (Maharashtra) MS Reddy & MP Pench Alok Kumar were present.
Swain said, “NTCA will get some projects funded under CSR. We have asked both the field directors to submit proposals to procure boats to check illegal fishing in Totladoh reservoir.” On February 24, fishermen had set afire three boats of Maharashtra Pench and the tiger reserve presently is left with only one boat. “We will submit a proposal for three boats to NTCA soon. We have already received Rs18 lakh for a boat under NTCA’s centrally sponsored scheme (CSS),” said Reddy.
Swain said NTCA will also explore providing livelihood options, ecodevelopment, and wildlife protection under CSR to villagers on the periphery of Pench. In MP Pench too, the 10 water boats have completed their life and the reserve would also seek funds under CSR to replace them.
