NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur (IIMK) is organizing 2-day Management Development Program (MDP) on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability on March 15-16 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. Early Bird Discount: Nominations received with payments on or before February 15 th, 2014 will be entitled to an early bird discount of 10%.

Group Discount: Any organization sponsoring 3 or more participants to the program will be entitled to a group discount of 10% of the total fee payable.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is defined in terms of the responsiveness of businesses to stakeholders’ legal, ethical, social and environmental expectations. CSR has generally been a pragmatic response to consumer and civil society pressures. The concept is not new in India, but it now taking on an entirely new dimension with the growing economy, larger profits and dispensable incomes. A properly implemented CSR concept can bring along a variety of competitive advantages, such as enhanced access to capital and markets, increased sales and profits, operational cost savings, improved productivity and quality, efficient human resource base, improved brand image and reputation, enhanced customer loyalty, better decision making and risk management processes.

Session 1: Business in the 21st Century

What are the defining trends that will impact business, society and governance?

Challenges of the 21st Century In this context why can we not continue business as usual?

What will be the new normal?

The paradigms of Sustainability and CSR and Inclusive growth.

India’s role and opportunities.

Indian Government CSR guidelines.

Session 2: Impact of CSR / Sustainability on – Strategy, Finance, Supply Chain

IMPACT ON various companies with examples:

Strategy –Strategic Business Decisions and Sustainability

Finance –Integrated reporting –GRI reports / Role of Capital Markets –Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Supply Chain –Concepts around Cradle to Cradle and why Take Make Waste is passe and we cannot look at linear supply chains anymore.

Session 3: Impact of CSR / Sustainability on – PR and Marketing

Marketing –Need for Cause Marketing –Increasing role of Digital Marketing –Rural Marketing

PR – Building support via PR, Communicating your CSR and Sustainability initiatives

Day 2

Session 4: Actioning a Sustainability strategy

Planning – what is CSR & what is not? (Priority areas, Need assessment & baseline study Exercise on key challenges that your organization has –water, waste, energy, livelihoods.

Budgeting, Implementation, Monitoring & Impact Assessment; ‘Project mode in implementation & monitoring.

Comprehensive evaluation –‘Impact’ rather than ‘outcome’.

Session 5: Sustainability Frameworks

The need for reporting, types of reports, types of frameworks.

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

Examples of Sustainability reports of various companies.

Organizational Change for Sustainability.

Pedagogy

The programme will employ a mix of classroom lectures, interactive discussions, case studies, and experience sharing. Both the conceptual and practical side of Corporate Social Responsibility will be discussed in light of the recent Companies Bill 2012. The sessions will be taken by faculty members of IIM Kashipur and industry experts.

Dr K M Baharul Islam- Course Director

Dr K M Baharul Islam has been teaching and researching in the area of Communication, Development, Information Technology policy and legal issues for more than two decades. Between 2007 and 2012 Dr Islam served as the Chairman and CEO of the South Asia Regional Gateway set up by the Development Getway (USA). He has published widely with more than eight books and 30+ papers/articles to his credit. He is a public speaker, debater, TV commentator and communication specialist. He holds LLM in Telecom and Information Technology Laws from the University of Strathclyde (UK), MA (English) from AMU, Aligarh. He did his PhD from the Tezpur University (India) and Post-Doctorate from Asian Institute of Technology (Bangkok) on new technologies in education.

Dr UtkarshMajmudar -Core Faculty

Dr. Utkarsh Majmudar has a doctorate from IIM Ahmedabad and MBA from IIM Lucknow.

He is a professional with experience encompassing academics and adminstration at top business school in India (IIM Lucknow, IIM Udaipur and IIM Bangalore) and working with large corporations. His interest area include corporate finance and CSR.

Namrata Rana-Core Faculty

Namrata Rana is a Director at Futurescape. She has a Master in Sustainability from Cambridge and an MBA degree from IIM Ahmedabad. She has worked extensively in sustainability, CSR, livelihoods, healthcare and mobility.

She also conducts workshops on CSR and Sustainability practices of Businesses.

IIM Kashipur belongs to the elite league of management institutes set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in 2010. It aims to provide quality management education to students while sensitizing them towards the needs of the society. The institute offers Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM), a two year full time residential programme and Executive Post Graduate Program in Management (EPGP).
