New Delhi: In recognition of its commitment towards energy conservation and efficiency, Jindal Power Limited (JPL) – Chhattisgarhhas received the CII – National Award for Excellence in Energy Management, 2014. JPLwon the award for –‘Excellent Energy Efficient Unit’at the CII Convention, held at the International Convention Centre, Hyderabad.

On intimation of the award –Mr Ravi Uppal, MD & Group CEO, JSPL said – “We are delighted to receive this prestigious CII Award. At JPL, we have created new benchmarks in the power sector, and this award is a testament of our unrelenting quest for innovation and operational excellence.”

The evaluation criterion of the award included a critical assessment of – trends of reduction in energy consumption, adoption of innovative energy saving initiatives, quantification of energy savings, specific methodologies adopted and proven efforts in harnessing renewable energy and waste materials.

Jindal Power Ltd. has the unique distinction of setting up India’s first Independent Power Plant (IPP) in the private sector- 1,000 MW Thermal Power Plant at Tamnar, inRaigarh district of Chhattisgarh. All the four units of this unit were commissioned within a span of nine months.

The company is expanding its capacity at Tamnar, (Phase 2) by setting up a 2400 MW (4 X 600 MW) thermal power plant, 3 units of 600 MW have already been commissioned and fourth unit is scheduled for synchronization by theend of this fiscal.

JPL - CII AwardAdditionally, JPL has signed agreements for development of three hydroelectric projects with combined capacity of 5600 MW, in a joint venture with HPDCAPL (Hydro Power Development Corporation of Arunachal Pradesh Limited).
