NEW DELHI: Jindal Power Ltd., Tamnar, Raigarh (Chhattisgarh) has been conferred with the prestigious India CSR Community Initiative award for its CSR project in Skill development. S.K.Sharma, Assistant Vice President CSR & Responsibility, received the award from Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Director General & CEO, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs and Rusen Kumar, Managing Editor, IndiaCSR and CSR & COMPETITIVENESS during the Annual India CSR Awards Ceremony held at PHD House, New Delhi on April 6, 2015.

Jindal Power Ltd. employs a large workforce from the local area, especially land sellers or Project Affected People (PAP) at Rabo Dam, majority of which includes unskilled workforce. Looking at the business requirement and guided by the philosophy of Shri. O.P. Jindal to strengthen employability of the marginalized and underprivileged sections of society in the local market ‘Utthaan : Skill Development & Enhancement Program’ was designed. It was aimed to contribute to the large-scale development of quality skilled workforce.
Skill development Project UTTHAN
The company Under its CSR initiative launched Skill development initiative ‘Utthaan’. The initiative is contributing to the large-scale development of quality skilled workforce. It would ultimately contribute to large scale development of quality skilled workforce for the upcoming projects in Chhattisgarh by providing competency based skill oriented technical and vocational training at OP Jindal community college and Jindal Polytechnic College. In the year 2004-2005, there was a program imparted in Polytechnic College, Raigarh on the same objectives as of Utthaan. There were around 200 students in it, out of which 150 were absorbed by JPL.

At JPL, Management has a proactive approach with an ambition to bring the land sellers under the main stream and fulfil Company’s commitment to its economic welfare. Utthaan is an organizational process aimed at helping the employees to accept and embrace changes for their benefit by under-going developmental training program which will upgrade their knowledge with multi-skills.
