With the deployment of 180 LNG vehicles, Hindustan Zinc will reduce its carbon footprint in inter-unit transportation and finished goods transportation by 20% in comparison to traditional diesel vehicles.
The tie-up will revolutionise logistics in the metals & mining sector for a sustainable future
Mumbai/Udaipur (India CSR): In a momentous step towards sustainability and environmental responsibility, Hindustan Zinc, India’s largest & only integrated producer of Zinc, Lead and silver has chosen GreenLine Mobility Solutions Ltd (GreenLine), a part of EssarGroup and a pioneer in green mobility solutions, as its sustainable and Green logistics partner and is set to deploy GreenLine’s LNG-powered fleet in its supply chain and transportation operations.
LNG-powered vehicles significantly reduce emissions compared to diesel and align perfectly with the sustainability goals of both organizations. This initiative will not only reduce the carbon footprint associated with transportation but also set new industry standards for green logistics.
Greener Initiatives with the Introduction of LNG Vehicles
Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to a sustainable future was further emphasized recently when its CEO, Arun Misra, made a significant announcement. He stated, “Sustainability is deeply rooted in our company’s DNA, reflected in every operation at Hindustan Zinc. This isn’t just a top-down directive; it’s a shared vision between our management and each employee.”
Misra unveiled the company’s latest move in its green journey – the deployment of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) vehicles. He elaborated, “Adopting LNG vehicles isn’t merely a showcase of our pledge towards a low-carbon Indian mining sector. It’s a significant leap towards revolutionizing transport and aligns perfectly with our established SBTi targets.”
He detailed those targets: “We aim for a 50% reduction in our absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions, coupled with a 25% decrease in absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by FY2030, taking FY2020 as the baseline.” Expressing the company’s ambition, Misra said, “We are not stopping here. This initiative is a precursor to our broader vision: achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, if not earlier. Expect more innovations in the upcoming months.”

LNG-Powered Trucks Boost Sustainable Freight Transportation
GreenLine is at the forefront of revolutionizing sustainable freight transportation, with a steadfast commitment to reducing carbon emissions and championing environmental responsibility, especially in long haul heavy-duty road logistics. In a bid to bolster this mission, the company has announced an investment of Rs. 200 Cr to deploy LNG-powered trucks for Hindustan Zinc’s road logistics operations.
Produced by Blue Energy Motors, GreenLine’s LNG-powered trucks promise a marked reduction in toxic emissions compared to their diesel counterparts. The numbers are impressive, with reductions in CO2 emissions by up to 30%, SOx by up to 100%, NOx by up to 59%, Particulate Matter by up to 91%, and CO by up to 70%.
Moreover, GreenLine hasn’t worked in isolation. They’ve synergized with various organizations, forging India’s first and only integrated green logistics ecosystem. This collaborative endeavor aims to make LNG trucking a standard in India, highlighting the immense benefits of LNG-fueled long-haul trucks and encouraging their widespread corporate adoption.
