EMCO Foundation (EF) an extended CSR arm of EMCO Ltd was registered in November 2007 and commenced its activities in March 2008, to promote sustainability and welfare of humanity with a vision “To transform lives through sustainable development involving stakeholders.” In these last four years we have transformed lives of more than 30,700 people through our initiatives In Education (Akshar), Environment (Ankur and Roshni) and Healthcare (Jeevan)
Education (AKSHAR):
Keeping in mind our government’s policy of Right to Education (RTE) EMCO has designed our initiatives under “Akshar” thro three approaches for the under privileged poor children from slums living in Mumbai and Jalgaon, Maharashtra.
Firstly, through’ “Shiksha” EMCO covers children aged 6 to 14 years with an objective to create interest in education and reduce dropouts by impressing the parents to educate their child and send them to schools.. For this we have adopted 70 slums in Thane and beyond and 20 slums in and around Jalgaon. More than 6500 slum children have benefited in English, Arithmetic and Marathi thro special teaching methods designed by Pratham, (well known NGO in this field) with the help of teachers selected from the same community and trained by Pratham and EF. Further every year uniforms, bags and shoes are distributed to 2000 primary children of Jalgaon Municipal Corporation schools. Besides every year education of 2248 Tribal Children is supported through 60 Ekal Vidyalaya schools in Tribal areas of Maharashtra, with the help of Friends of Tribal Societies and also take care of their health through medical check ups
Shiksha Community Class
Secondly, flagship program ‘Parivartan’ is benefiting municipal school children of Thane and Jalgaon and Maharana Pratap School in Jalgaon by enhancing their soft skills, personality development and English Speaking capacities. This project has benefited so far 12422 students of 8th, 9th and 10th Std. and this number is increasing every year. Through this programme the children from poor families build their self esteem and start believing in themselves and aspire and work towards their goals in life. Every opportunity is given to these children to express themselves and demonstrate their hidden talents through competitions, variety programmes and learn to manage themselves thro compeering in such programmes. Career guidance is given to all the 10th std students of these schools with the help of “young Buzz’ renowned name in this field. This project helped my daughter a lot, increased her confidence and now she understands value of time says Radha Lohar mother of Ms. Priyanka Lohar of Kisan nagar school, Thane. Ms. Snehal of Maharana Pratap School says “She was always fascinated by people who speak fluent English and wanted to emulate them.. Parivartan programme’s English classes gave her guts to speak in English in elocution completion and also in her feedback during the convocation programme.
Lastly under “Yashasvi” these well groomed children from municipal schools are given the required financial support to continue their studies up to graduation thro’ reward and scholarships, and so far 212 scholars have been supported. First set of Yashasvi graduates will be passing out in June 2012.
Keeping in mind the social background of these children, EMCO has organized Tobacco awareness campaign and received tremendous response from students and teachers. More than 3300 students benefited with important information on adverse effects of tobacco on health. And vowed not to touch tobacco and some of them have even influenced their family members to give up tobacco chewing / smoking. After this programme, I taught my brother about the negative effect of chewing tobacco and helped him to lead a life without tobacco says Ms. Ayesha of Mumbra School.
Environment (ANKUR, & ROSHNI):
Under our ‘Ankur’ project, with the support from Municipal Corporations, local community, school children and EMCOites we have planted so far760 saplings in Jalgaon, Thane, Dadra and Vadodra., besides distributing seeds as a corporate gift to encourage more people participation.
Under project “Roshni” with an objective to promote renewable energy, 400 solar lanterns were distributed to BPL families of Jalgaon and tribal areas of wada taluka of Thane benefiting more than 2000 people.
Healthcare (JEEVAN):
Every year, blood donation camps are organized under project Jeevan. And so far we have collected 1018 units of bloods with the help of well known blood banks to meet the need of people in emergencies.
Joy of Giving Week
For the second year in succession, we had organized the Joy of Giving Week event from 2- 8 October 2011 and this time covered all locations of EMCO Ltd. All Emcoites were motivated by posters and E-mails for maximum participation for the noble cause, and they in turn donated generously cloths, raincoats, toys, books, umbrellas, stationery, footwear etc. Collected items sufficient for 1200 families were handed over to Goonj an NGOs who is coordinating this event for Mumbai region for distribution to the needy children, and their families in tribal areas of Maharashtra, M.P. Chhattisgarh, Bundelkhand and the people who are affected by natural calamities
To promote sports, EMCO has financially supported ‘Lakshya’ an NGO working for sports promotion. Proud to share that EMCO supported shooter Amit Kumar Pillania, got selected for the World Cup and we wish him the very best
