CII Conference on ‘Developing Industry – NGO Connect- Redefining Partnership’ in Mumbai on 19 Dec

MUMBAI: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organizing a Conference on “Developing Industry – NGO Connect: Redefining Partnership” on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Hotel Trident, Nariman Point, Mumbai.

Piruz_Khambatta“The country is witnessing that Civil Society Organizations have created a strong foothold and made inroads to the most backward and underdeveloped areas. They have gained prominence by addressing the societal and Economic needs of the people. There were an estimated 3.3 million NGOs in India, in 2009 out of which 150+ NGOs are working at the grass root level.”, Piruz Khambatta, Chairman, CII (WR) CSR Sub-Committee (2013 -14) said INDIACSR.

Corporate Social Responsibility has gained phenomenal importance, post the parliamentary enactment of the Company Bill.  Corporate Social Responsibility is an extension of an organization’s effort in fostering strong corporate governance and ensuring the sustainability of business through doing well to the society.  The Social responsibility of business refers to taking decisions and actions that creates value for the society and enables the business to get considerable sustainable business mileage in the long run.

NGO Connect- Redefining PartnershipThe conference will strive to Create a platform suitable for policy discussions and debate aligning to CSR, Provide ongoing support and networking opportunities for members and the Civil society to engage in constructive partnerships that will result in project implementations and impact oriented actions, To influence the Government a decision making body through advocacy and Negotiation on Corporate Social Responsibility issues and influence developmental thought and actions of Industries through engaging discussions from thought leaders and practitioners.

Industries are the key to Economic growth of the nation. Sustained economic growth has to contribute towards employment generation, Poverty Reduction and human development. For inclusive and efficient growth process partnership of the corporate sector to the efforts of Government and that of Civil Society organizations is a need of the hour.

cii logoThe Recent Company bill includes CSR illustratively, where it is mandatory for companies to spend 2% of the 3 years average profit towards social spending. This has further evolved into the new Companies Act 2013, which would give the country a legislation towards involving the corporate sector into inclusive growth.
