Balco Builds Reservoir to Irrigate 160 Acres of land in Korba, Chhattisgarh

Balco along with NABARD have invested nearly Rs. 18.00 lakhs. The dam is 63 metres long and 1.1 metresĀ  in height. There are 10 gates. The water reservoir capacity is 60.40 lakh litres. It will be able to irrigate 160 acres of land.

KORBA/BALCONAGAR: Sameer Cairae, Vedanta Group Head-Diversified Metals inaugurated the check dam constructed by Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (Balco)Ā atĀ Village Panchayat Dondro in Korba district of Chhattisgarh, where Balco has aluminium production facilities.

On the occasion, Bandhan Singh, Village Sarpanch, Dondro, Ramesh Nair, CEO & Whole Time Director, Balco and B.K.Sriwastwa, Head-Community Relations were present.

Cairae prasied the construction of the check dam for farmers. He said that the farmers should utilise the water resource and have bountiful crops and also progress. On this occasion, Cairae also met women trained in stitching and embroidery under the ā€˜Disha Project’. He acquainted himself with the benefits being received by the women under the project. He assured the residents of Dondro that they would continue to receive every possible help from Balco

Kanwar Sarpanch, Village Dondro said that the farmers face lot of problems due to scanty rainfall. The Check Dam will bring lot of relief to the farmers.He wished the farmers a bright future. Anil Deshmukh, Panch said that the construction of the check dam is a matter of great pride for Dondro residents. With the help of Balco now the farmer will be able to reap crops three times over the year. This will enhance their earnings by three times. He also added that Balco was always supporting them for the development of different areas. Balco’s ā€˜Nal-Jal’ Project has helped the problem of water scarcity to a great extent.

Dr. Rameshwar Sriwastwa, Coordinator for ā€˜Jalgram Project’ implementation agency, an NGO, namely-Afpro shared that the Sarpanch and the village residents have helped the construction of the dam in a big way. The Belgiri ā€˜nullah’ which passes through Village Dondro is perennial. Hence it was necessary to build a check dam. The dam has been constructed a very nominal cost but the benefits are extraordinary.

The programme saw the presence of Manihar Singh Kanwar,Gram Patel and Ghurau Yadav along with a large number of residents.
