NEW DELHI: 51 fatalities have occurred at Vedanta Limited operations in the last 6 years, a report said.
Nine fatalities were reported by the company during the FY 2018-19 itself. Seven fatalities occurred in its Rajapura Dariba, Zawar mines, Chanderia Smelter and Debari smelting complex during the year.
The company said it is aiming fatality free workplace by 2020.
The company however said that the root causes of these fatal incidents have been investigated and the resulting findings include making better risk decisions and providing better supervision during all activities among others.
‘Our business had seen improving safety performance in the last five years, where our LTIFR (Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate) had decreased by 24%. However, this year has run counter to that trend and during FY 2019, the lost time injury frequency rate increased to 0.63 (FY 2018: 0.27)’, company said.
