JHARSUGUDA: An awareness session on HIV/AIDS was organized by the CSR department of Vedanta Ltd. Jharsuguda for the students of Sarbahal High School recently.

Over 40 students from classes 9th and 10th attended the program along with the school headmaster Prasanna Sahu and other faculty, members of the CSR dept., Ashok Panigrahi, Secretary – SARC, and Dr Radharaman Birtia, District Tuberculosis Officer.

The primary objective of this program was to generate awareness about the causes, symptoms, myths, preventive and remedial measures of the disease, among the students as they are the most vulnerable target group during adolescence.

Dr Radharaman Birtia, who conducted a technical session to educate the gathering on the above, urged the students to imbibe proper sanitation habits in their daily lives and spread the message among peers. The program culminated with a short quiz to drive home the information about STDs and prize distribution.

The HIV/AIDS Awareness Program is an ongoing CSR project driven in partnership with SARC (Social Action for Rural Community) where stakeholders, partners and community members from different strata of the society are educated on multiple facets of the disease.

Health & Sanitation is a key intervention area for Vedanta Ltd. Jharsuguda, and periodically various initiatives like health camps, awareness programs, cleaning drives, etc. are undertaken so as to benefit employees as well as community members in a manner that is both educative and participative.
