HYDERABAD: Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced its dedicated support to the partnership between India and Japan on the human resource development in the manufacturing sector in India. In Tokyo on 11 November 2016, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Government of Japan (METI) and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India (MSDE) had signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) for a “Manufacturing Skill Transfer Promotion Programme”.
This programme will enhance the manufacturing base of India and contribute to “Make in India” and “Skill India,” through training 30,000 persons over next 10 years with Japanese style manufacturing skills and practices through the establishment of the Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIM) and the Japanese Endowed Courses (JEC) in engineering colleges designated by Japanese companies in India in cooperation between the public and private sectors.
The first three such institutes would start in summer next year in Gujarat, Karnataka and Rajasthan. This was announced after talks between honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Honorable Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
The Indian Automotive Industry is one of the biggest contributor to the Indian Economy. The Indian Automotive Industry today is being seen as one of the most competitive amongst the automotive industries of the world. The industry has shown a healthy 7-10% which makes us stand tall not only in the Asian Markets but also makes us the world’s 5th largest automobile market. With latest models being launched by auto manufacturers with advanced technology, there is a significant need for highly skilled service personnel.

The company has been tirelessly working towards enhancing the employability quotient in the automobile manufacturing industry in India by promoting unique skill development initiatives. Toyota’s skill development initiatives are aimed at contributing to Honorable Prime Minister’s ‘Skill India’ mission by bridging the gap between India’s rapidly growing industrial sector and availability of highly skilled workforce to match up with It has been rightly said by Honorary Advisor Eiji Toyoda “Because people make our automobiles, nothing gets started until we train and educate our people.”
As a part of its commitment towards developing world class skilled workforce for the emerging Indian Auto Industry, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has established Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI) in the year 2007 to impart training to financially challenged students hailing from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families from across Karnataka. During its three-year residential automobile manufacturing course, TTTI focuses on developing employable skills among rural students of Karnataka and facilitates to improve their quality of life and realize greater employment opportunities. TTTI is situated within the premises of Toyota’s manufacturing plant at Bidadi, near Bangalore. TTTI offers its students four courses-which includes automobile welding, automobile assembly, automobile painting and plant maintenance.
The students are exposed to Toyota Way of Manufacturing ‘Monozukuri’ and familiarized with the global concepts of ‘Lean Manufacturing’, Kaizen, Genchi Genbutsu. Training at TTTI is not restricted to classrooms and workshops alone. TTTI exclusively emphasizes on over all development of the trainees as per industry requirements & towards “Perfecting people” and there by contributing young multi skilled, energetic, ideal students to the nation. Training Curriculum is a unique blend which focuses on the holistic development of Knowledge (16%), Skill (34%), Body and Mind (50%) of the students. Since inception around 448 students successfully completed the training and working in TKM, Toyota group companies & Supplier partners.

The students trained in TTTI have been representing & competing in various skill contests in India & globally and have won several accolades over the years. We hope with the “Manufacturing Skill Transfer Promotion Programme’’ more and more skilled talents in India will be able to get a global exposure. This will prove to be a great initiative for knowledge sharing between the training institutes of both the nations.”
