JAMSHEDPUR: In order to commemorate Fire Services Day, Tata Steel Fire Brigade Department is organizing a Fire Safety week from April 14-20, 2012, inside Works and also amongst the Community. The objective behind this Fire Safety Week is to create awareness among the community on fire safety and to prevent any injury in homes and Schools.
To create awareness in the Community, the focus will be on in-home Fire Safety. Many incidents of fires caused by gas cylinder explosions or electrical short circuits are reported, where many people lose their lives. In view of this, the Tata Steel Fire Brigade Department has developed awareness stickers on fire safety hazards with the purpose that if everyone follows certain check points as mentioned on the stickers, and then one can prevent any fire incident in the household. Emergency numbers are also mentioned on the stickers so that they are available readily in case of need.
Apart from the above initiative Tata Steel has also developed checklist for house wives on gas safety, electrical safety and fire safety. This check list will be distributed among the community with the help of Urban Services of Tata Steel, through their Community Centers.
To strengthen fire safety awareness in Schools, this year, with the coordination of SAFE, Tata Steel fire brigade Department has developed an audit checklist on school fire safety. The purpose of this checklist is to identify the gaps pertaining to fire safety and to strengthen emergency preparedness in the schools. The Safe Clubs of schools will be asked to conduct this Audit.
In India 14th April is observed as Fire Services Day in memory of all Fire Professionals who lost their life in saving others’ life and property. On this day, in the year 1944, the Fire Personnel displayed exemplary courage and devotion to their duty as they fought the huge Fire and Explosion at Victoria Dock, Mumbai. Many Fire Fighters lost their lives in this incident. Respect and homage is paid to all those Fire Fighters who lost their lives on this date.
