ANGUL: Adding another feather in its cap and the first one of this Year, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd  (JSPL), Angul has bagged Awards for best CSR practices in two categories – Sustainable Livelihood and Community Health Care – in the Odisha CSR Conclave – 2014 held at Bhubaneswar on January 17, 2014. JSPL has steel production facility in Angul in the state of Odisha.

Prashant Kumar Hota, Vice-President, CSR & Corporate communications of JSPL  along with the CSR team received the awards from Odisha Steel and Mines Minister Rajanikant Singh during the daylong event, participated by professionals from different Corporates and NGOs.

The Minister gave a clarion call to the Industries to get more and more sensitized to the Social needs. He emaphasised the role of RPDAC to set the ball rolling to pursue the Social Agenda as imbibed in amendments made in the Company Act.

Addressing the inaugural session of the programme, Subrat Ratho, Managing Director – Coal to Liquid and Head, JSPL Odisha Business said, “CSR should be part of the DNA of any company, then only it can be impact lives positively and create a win- win ambiance.”

“The professionals working in the field of CSR should leave their urban biases, develop  a pro – people attitude and focus on connecting with the rural people to enable themselves to contribute to  shape up the  lives of the Community. CSR should be embedded in the values of the Company and be integrated with the strategic management process of the Company”  he added.

jspl angul CSRPrashant Kumar Hota made a presentation   on ‘Innovative Approaches for Strengthening CSR : Lessons from Corporate India’. He highlighted different innovative CSR approaches of JSPL, Angul like Shodshi, Kishori Express, and Watershed Management Practices etc. “At JSPL, guided by the vision of our Chairman  Mr. Naveen Jindal , our CSR  activities focuses on improving quality of life of the people in our periphery and also  that of the People at large. We are very thankful to Think Media INC and its jury members for recognizing our efforts. This adds  further to  our responsibility and do more to outdo ourselves in implementation of participatory  of sustainable community development Projects ” Said Mr. Hota, while receiving the Award.

Experts of the  Technical sessions admired the JSPL CSR project models  as replicable development   models  which the National Planners should see and broad base.”It is noteworthy that JSPL is such an organization which always stands tall among in peers while it comes to CSR and Community Development and appreciated by many organizations of high-repute” experts said.

Among others who were present and set the road map for  the Conclave through their address  were Satakodi Hota, Chief Editor of The Samaya; Yumi Bae, Chief Filed Officer of UNICEF, Secretary & Team Leader Udyama and delegates from different companies and NGOs.

Odisha CSR Conclave – 2014 was organized by Think Media Inc with a theme as “Odisha CSR -Exploring CSR Potential”. It provided an excellent forum for professionals from different organizations to share opinions about integrating CSR in Strategic Management Processes.
