NEW DELHI: HCL Foundation organized the HCL Foundation Sports Fest 2016, at Noida Stadium, Sector 21, Noida. The key objective of this annual event is to encourage children to develop sports skills in children, especially among the students of HCL-supported Gurukul, My School and Yuvakendra projects, and to nurture talent through participation in multiple sports activities. The sports fest was organized on Sunday, November 27, 2016. HCL established youth centres or Gurukuls to enhance the education and development of the youth between the age of 11-18 years.
The event started with a torch bearing where captain of various teams ran with the torch for instilling sportsmanship amongst the participants. Nidhi Pundhir, Director HCL Foundation marked the event open by bearing the torch.
A total of 550 students participated from 10 Gurukuls, My School and Yuvakendra projects in games like Cricket, Relay races, Karate, Badminton, Chess, Kabaddi and Kho Kho. They came from Madanpur Khadar, Hoshairpur, Nithari, Sector 16 Slum, Ghijore areas, where HCL Foundation has its Urban CSR projects.
This event is part of the larger community development initiative under the HCL Foundation. HCL Gurukul is educational center in communities where coaching, counseling, life skills training, sports & arts activities are conducted. It encourages the students to bring out the best in themselves through constant mentorship by dedicated HCL employee volunteers over the years. These passionate volunteers engage with students, and guide them as their role models.
Through this sports fest, a broad platform, hidden talents of these Gurukul children are nurtured and recognized which otherwise may be lost due to limited exposure in their current schools.
Prashant Sharma, Manager, Mahila Bank also sensitized the participants on the importance of bank accounts and asked all children to have their bank accounts.
