Dr Sanjay Kumar
Ph.D in Ceramic Engineering
Principal Scientist & Group Head, Recycling and Waste Utilization
CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur
Dr. Sanjay Kumar is well known in international fraternity for his remarkable contribution in the area of fly ash utilization. He is Ph.D in Ceramic Engineering, Fellow, Indian Institute of Ceramics and having 18 years of experience in the area of fly ash utilization starting from basic research to technology implementation. Currently he is Principal Scientist & Group Head, Recycling and Waste Utilization at CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur, India.
Currently He is leading a comprehensive research program on fly ash under 12 th Five Year Plan with participation from many industries. He is also leading three International Collaborative projects on fly ash. His main research interest is ‘Green technologies from fly ash’. Dr. Kumar has initiated the research on fly ash geopolymers in India and today his group is internationally recognized. They have put up the first fly ash geopolymer pilot plant in India with support from Fly ash unit, DST which is a unique facility and working as national capacity building centre. Under his leadership, the technology for making Paving blocks from fly ash and steel slag combination by geopolymerisation has been developed jointly with Tata Steel, and was judged among 70 best technologies developed by Council of Scientific & Industrial Research in last 70 years.
Dr. Kumar has authored 2 book chapters, 60 papers and having 15 patents related to fly ash. He is on the editorial board of two International journals. He is recipient of many prestigious awards like PEIN Research Excellence Fellowship by Spain in 2012, Sarswat Award for best Eco-Innovation project 2012, Altekar Award for Best Technology 2011, Tamotia Award, 2006, Nijhawan Award 2005, and many others.
