RAIGARH: A local court on Monday ordered that a bailable warrant be reissued against Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) and its two senior officers in connection with a water pollution related case.

JSPL , is one of the biggest private sector investor in the state of Chhattisgarh, which has 3 MTPA steel production facility in Raigarh and 350 MW captive power plant.

O P Beriwal of the State Environment Department said that the Chief Judicial Magistrate G K Neelam had earlier issued the bailable warrant – through police – against JSPL and its senior general manager (power plant) R Chakravarthy and deputy senior general manager (environment management) V Karthikeyan.

However, the warrant was not executed on the last three occasions. So the court has now asked the Superintendent of Police to execute it, he said.

They have been summoned to court on November 18. The state environment department, on August 3 this year, had lodged a criminal complaint against the company stating that it raised the height of a fly-ash storage dyke in Kosampali village without permission.

The dyke’s wall breached due to flaws in the construction and resulted in water pollution on June 22.
